A New Direction for our Youtube Content [Vlog]
After much thought about how to use Youtube, we’ve made some refinements to our plans and what we are doing with each channel. As of sometime next week, Tabletops & Tentacles will have FIVE regular Youtube channels, each with a specific, refined focus and feel. I did a ton of research on how to best use the platform and though a part of me wanted to make one uber-channel with everything which would be better representative of the magazine and website and my interests overall, I found some compelling videos that discussed the importance of a refined focus on Youtube so that new visitors look at your videos and see more of what brought them to the channel in the first place. It drives subscriptions and followers, which I suppose is the point in the long run.
To that end, we have 3 channels live currently and 2 in the prep/design phase:
Tabletops & Tentacles: Tutorials & Crafting
This channel will be where you will find all of my tabletop terrain builds, RPG books and accessory unboxings and reviews. Basically anything RPG-related. I’m currently working on a series of Post-Apocalyptic terrain tiles for Gaslands and Fallout Wasteland Warfare. My next series will be volcanic…
Tabletops & Tentacles: Board Games
This channel will be mostly all about board games - It will include our biweekly Kickstarter rundowns, our series of “GROK The Game” videos as well as any unboxings, reviews and playthroughs of board games. This will also be where I talk about making games.
The Cluttered Kraken
Originally designed as a food and old cookbook channel, this has been revamped slightly to be focused more on the Behind the Scenes world of Deeply Dapper and T&T. I’ll be posting vlogs about our journey, my struggles with improving and filming content on my iPhone and some tech and item reviews. I’ll also be posting vlogs about my work on our studio space and making a creative location that also works for filming without breaking the budget. Essentially, as the name implies, this channel will be everything that doesn’t fit into our other categories.
The Midnight Cryptid
I am currently finishing up the writing for the first few episodes of this channel with a plan to debut it in mid-August. The Midnight Cryptid will be about the unknown: Cryptids, mysteries, disappearances, unsolved murders, UFOs, ghost sightings and more. My brother and I have always loved this kind of thing and it will be more of a campfire storytelling channel.
The Artist Alley
This has been in the planning stages for some time - We want to create a channel that has the feel of the Artist Alley itself in a con - We will be featuring a mix of art tutorials, interviews, “Virtual Booth” visits and panels from artists, authors, craftsmen and artisans - both previously posted content they’ve provided and all-new interviews and panels with creators. This is where we will also be posting any video versions of the interviews from the magazine. I am just gathering content for this with plans to launch in late August, but you can subscribe to the channel now to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Obviously, I’d love it if you subscribed to all five channels, but I also know that not all of these are for everyone, which is sort of the point of splitting them up this way. With conventions shuttered for the foreseeable future, we really see Youtube as a strong contender for getting some of that customer and fellow geek interaction that we’ve been missing back into our lives. I’m quite excited about all of it.
