My brother had zero interest in playing The Deadlies when I put it out on the table. A small box card game with bright, cartoony art of beasties and animals, it is not his type of game at all. In The Deadlies, you are attempting to empty your hand three times before your opponent. To do this, you are ridding your hand of the seven deadly sins, either through matching, numerical order or by outsmarting your opponents.

We were less than a round in before Ben started to get into the game. Each of the deadly sins has a special ability that are shockingly accurate thematically. Greed has you unloading piles of cards with the risk of getting them yourself, Sloth just hangs out in front of you and Lust has you trusting a temporary partner… sometimes.

Released by Smirk and Dagger Games, The Deadlies is really easy to learn and a lot of fun. We played three games of it the first night. Just as you think you have the upper hand, someone manages to empty their last hand and beat you, which immediately makes you want to release the seven deadly sins again.
